Arrived in Athens!

We arrived in Greece today where we are going to be doing volunteering with refugees for the next week.I feel like friends and family have taken more interest in this trip than others I’ve been on. Quite a few people have told us they think it’s cool that we’re going and or have asked quite a few questions. For the most part Franz has been the organiser and I’ve felt a bit guilty taking the praise as I’ve been a relatively passive bystander in the preparation process. Franz has done a lot of work finding and contacting organisations and working out what there is to do in Greece. Until a few hours ago when I read an email from our volunteer coordinator outlining the plan for tomorrow I’d also been feeling a bit apprehensive about what we would be doing here and being worried that we would get here and not actually be able to help much – I’ve had this experience as a volunteer before – that you want to help but it turns out that the tasks for the volunteers are really minor and or there are way too many volunteers for the jobs at hand. With this in my mind I’d also feeling a bit unsure about the compliments we’d been getting from others about spending out holidays in Greece because I don’t know if it’s just a show, something cool to say that we’re coming to help but in reality something that won’t help much.
